Linda Levey On April 15, Gaspare’s (Gaspare, Robin, and Danny Indelicato) hosted a party for over 30 neighbors and contributors/volunteers who worked so hard to make this a reality. Where once we feared up to 28 homes and the traffic, noise, and light disruption that would be part of that project, we worked together and fought to preserve this property for posterity. The biggest tragedy would have been losing the great blue herons that call this site home. We see them throughout the neighborhood, foraging in the creek, flying over our homes… and now we will continue to see them, and hopefully even more of them!
So many people to thank, so little room … Thank you to Marin Audubon Society and Marin Conservation League who stepped up to support us in this effort (please contribute to them!). Thank you to the many, many neighbors and members of the 650 Working Group who worked tirelessly for over 10 years to read reports, attend meetings, and write letters. Thank you to the 650 Committee (Jonathan Metcalf, Bob Sos, Linda Levey, Mary Hanley, Art Reichert, Robert Dobrin, and Jack West) who worked the final leg to keep the housing numbers down at the site. Thank you to Jack West, Christina Manansala, and Bonnie Monte who took it from there to secure funding to save this property for the herons. And thank you to our anonymous donor – we don’t know you, but we love you!
Thank you to Supervisor Susan Adams and Aide Susannah Clark who were with us every step of the way – advising and working with us to achieve this final goal. Without Susan’s unflagging energy and push for us, this reality never would have been possible. And finally, thank you to our neighbors Gaspare, Robin, and Danny for their consistent generosity to the SVNA and our neighborhood. The food and wine was free-flowing and the party was a wonderful celebration of this long, long process.
